Peter Jones – Chairman
“I have lived in Rutland for over 50 years and previously represented both Rutland County Council and Oakham Town Partnership. I have a great passion for the town, the county and the community. Having also been in business in Oakham and Uppingham for many years I am pleased to be part of the community and charitable organisation at The Victoria Hall. The Victoria Hall has a wealth of history and charm. A truly important location and the centre of the community.”
Jim Telling – Secretary
“I believe that the Victoria Hall is a valuable asset to Oakham and the Rutland community. I joined the Trustees to help continue the good work done by others in the past”
Mike Pearson – Trustee
“Having moved to Oakham with my family in 1991 I am a relative new boy in town but still consider myself to be a proud Rutlander. I retired in 2012 and am pleased to be able to use my experience in accounting, IT and project management to assist with the ongoing development of the Victoria Hall.”
John Snell – Trustee
“I became a Trustee because for many years I have benefitted from the services provided by the Victoria Hall and it seemed an ideal opportunity to do something in return for that benefit.”
Richard Adams – Trustee
“Having lived in Oakham since 1973 and spent the majority of my working life in local government in Rutland, serving as a trustee gives me an opportunity to help retain the Victoria Hall as a useful facility for the local community.”
Ruth Maguire – Trustee
“I wished to become a Trustee of The Victoria Hall as I am a regular user, teaching Ballroom and Latin Dancing, so have the interest of the Victoria Hall very much in mind. A qualified teacher of dancing for 50 years and a Life Member of the International Dance Teachers’ Association, I was anxious to continue my work after moving to Rutland ten years ago. The Victoria Hall is a central venue for residents of the county with a good sized floor suitable for Ballroom Dancing and for catering of pupil’s social events.”
Tony Mathias – Trustee
Tony has lived in Rutland for most of his life, currently living in Oakham and is Leader of Rutland County Council.
Richard Haynes – Trustee
Having spent some forty years teaching in independent education, I moved to Oakham in 2015. Now retired, I am at present a member of Oakham Town Council, and proud to represent that body as a Trustee of the Victoria Hall. The Hall provides an important service to the community of Oakham and the surrounding area, and long may that continue.
John Nowell – Trustee
Served with the RAF on Shackletons and various helicopters for 19 years. Then spent 25 years in the Middle East – bought a house in Oakham in 1983 when four of my children went to Oakham School. After flying, went into publishing and now have 40+ hardback aviation books out. Served as a Councillor on Oakham Town Council and now Hon Treasurer with Oakham Town Partnership. Looking forward to the re-development of the Town Centre where Victoria Hall is the focal point.
Oliver Bird – Trustee
I started my working life as a teacher working with children who had learning and behavioural problems, coming to Rutland in 1977 to work at Knossington Grange. In 1983 I set up my own business in Oakham which was landscape design and construction. This kept me busy until I retired in 2012. I have been involved with many local groups such as the Rutland Arts Theatre Group over the years and have a real passion for local arts.
I am currently a County Councillor, my ward being Oakham S.W. I have been involved in starting the Oakham Neighbourhood Plan and the Oakham town centre improvements. I also Chair the Oakham Town Partnership.
